To update the lifting schedule for the team through the end of the school year, we will be lifting on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 6:00 Am for athletes who work or play other sports (it really is not bad after a week of so you are used to it), and 2:45 in the afternoon. This is for the Varsity players. The Middle school athletes lift on Tuesday and Thursday at 2:45.
These times will be consistent till the end school. If there is a change then an announcement will be made through the school.
We will have an organizational meeting during school in May to establish summer schedule. At that time I will send home a summer commitment letter.

Thanks Coach!
What a great "Mom's Day" meeting. I think that I can speak for all of us when I say it was enjoyable and educational!

Mothers Day
I want to announce my intentions to hold the first annual Mothers Day. I am going have a Saturday with the players mothers only. Just YOU and ME for a couple of hours. I want to talk with you about what we are doing here with your boys. I want you to have the opportunity to ask questions you may not be able to ask or get answers to from the men in your life. This will be open to ALL mother, or female guardians, of Northwestern players grades 7 through 11. You have been with the program for at least one year and you deserve my time.
The date and the time are still to be announced. I am hoping to serve a meal to you (Mrs Carr in the HS has offered to help with this). Any help or ideas are welcome.
Sincerely,
Coach Shaw

Time moves quickly
I watched the wrestling match last night. I noticed that the younger boys, the middle school boys, who had been in the weight room during the month of January, proved to be stronger than their opponents. Coach Hough has been religious about getting them in the weight room and it is showing.
This being said, the few young men who have attended the majority of the lifting session with me through the winter have shown tremendous improvements. The wrestling coach point out to me that Josh Paradise has shown great improvement as a wrester due to the lifting time.
For those of you who were in the film session following the General McLane game, you know that in order to beat good teams we have to put the time in NOW!! We will win those games during the off-season, not during the game!
Camp is only 30 weeks away. That is 6 more lifting cycles.

Lifting under way
Yesterday afternoon coach Hough brought the MS wrestlers to the weight room to lift. This was the first time lifting for a few of the boys. They learned some of the basic techniques of weight training. Our goal for now is to teach them to lift properly, not break their backs with too much weight.
Thanks to the varsity players who stayed to help teach those younger players the lifts. This effort by the upper classmen is a sign that the program is building and the players are taking ownership.
For those who have not been to lifting, I am expecting to see you there. We are working on team building in addition to speed and strength. All 9th, 10th and 11th graders should be at lifting.

Off season Lifting
We will begin off season weight training today and will continue every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. These session are non-mandatory until January, but are highly recommended as we develop a STRONG Wildcat football program.
Every opportunity to get stronger should be taken advantage of. The session will run from 2:45 till 4:00 on those days. It does make a difference whether you lift with the TEAM or on your own!
